Golf Cart Rules and Registration in Country Club East, Lakewood Ranch

Golf carts are a popular way to get around Country Club East in Lakewood Ranch, but to use one legally, you need to follow some important rules. These guidelines are designed to keep the community safe, organized, and accountable.

Approved Golf Carts

Only two types of carts are allowed in Country Club East:

  • Personal carts owned by CCE residents
  • Carts leased through the Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club

If you own a cart, you must register it with the Property Management Office before using it in the community.

How to Register Your Cart

To register your personal cart:

  • Fill out and sign the Golf Cart Agreement
  • Pay a $100 registration fee by check, payable to Country Club East HOA
  • Show proof of insurance that:
    • Covers community roads and paths
    • Includes at least $100,000 in property damage and $300,000 in liability
    • Lists Country Club East HOA as an additional insured

Once approved, staff will place a decal on the right rear of your cart. It must stay visible and intact at all times.

Required Equipment

Your golf cart must have:

  • Brake lights
  • A rearview mirror
  • Red reflectors in the front and back
  • Headlights and turn signals if you plan to drive after dark

Carts should always be clean, well-maintained, and in good working condition.

Who Can Drive

Only licensed drivers can operate a golf cart in Country Club East. Drivers with a learner’s permit must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Carts must stay on roads—not sidewalks—and all traffic laws must be followed.

Breaking the Rules

If you violate any rule, the HOA may:

  • Suspend or revoke your cart registration
  • Fine you up to $100 per violation or per day for ongoing violations

You have five days to correct a written violation notice before further action is taken.

Liability and Insurance

As a registered cart owner, you must:

  • Keep insurance coverage active while your cart is in the community
  • Provide proof of insurance within 30 days if requested

You also agree to cover all legal costs and hold the HOA harmless for any damage, injury, or death involving your cart—even if the HOA was negligent.

Other Rules to Know

  • You must register again and pay the fee if you get a new cart
  • Registrations and agreements cannot be transferred to another person
  • All legal disputes must be handled in Manatee County, Florida. The winning party can recover legal fees
